12 Seconds in 1927 - an extra for Eclipse - Celia Lake

"12 Seconds in 1927" is an extra of 5,000 words.

It takes place during the total solar eclipse over Schola in 1927 and follows on from Eclipse.

No specific content notes.

The story behind this one is rather simple. In April 2024, I went with friends (including Kiya, one of my best friends, editor, and other half my brain) up from Boston to just inside Quebec for the total solar eclipse. It was an incredible experience - totality really is like nothing else in the world. I knew I had to make the attempt to put it into words.

When I wrote Eclipse, I knew that there'd be a total eclipse over Schola two years after that book, in June of 1927. Seeing one of my own was the perfect reason to write this extra.

For people who love Thesan and Isembard, it's also at a particular moment in their lives together. (Their older daughter, Ursula Fortier, will be born that November). Getting a little bit of how Ursula got her name into this delights me.
